  • That is why Mince Pie were called Mince Pies as they use to have Mince Meat in them.

The early mince pie was known by several names, including "mutton pie, "shrid pie" and "Christmas pie". Typically its ingredients were a mixture of minced meat, suet, a range of fruits, and spices such as cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. I believe it was the Roman Catholics that removed the meat at Christmas because of their religion regarding eating meat on Christmas Eve and made it sweet as a dessert.

Then over time the meat was taken out completely and became a much sweeter dessert at Christmas Time for everyone.

  • When the lady is referring to meat I'm pretty sure she talking about sweet meats which is actually fruit not beef
